Sorry for a very naive question ? Is MAP assignment and MAP estimation the same thing ?

Depends on the context, but I'd say that a MAP assignment is an assignment to variables in a model with highest probability and MAP estimation is the process of finding such an assignment.

Isn't MAP estimation usually reserved for point estimate of parameters, while MAP inference refers to finding a MAP assignment of variables in general (including point estimate of parameters).

MAP estimation is estimating the parameters, a MAP estimate is the same as a MAP assignment, I think.
