I would like to load the small NORB dataset using pylearn2's datasets/norb_small.py wrapper. Unfortunately, this wrapper expects files that end in .npy, which I'm guessing is some sort of Numpy-specific format. The original small NORB dataset, available from NYU, has .mat suffixes instead. Note that these aren't MATLAB '.mat' files; they're a custom format, described on the NORB page.

I've Googled high and low for a .npy version of the NORB dataset but couldn't find it. Could someone point me in the right direction?

One Answer:

Nevermind; I ended up implementing a Pylearn2 wrapper for the small NORB dataset in its original format. The wrapper is available in the current Git repository of Pylearn2, in pylearn2/datasets/norb.py
