The first and foremost step for oil extraction is the cleaning of seeds and their processing. This is done so that the oil seeds are cleaned and separated from the many unwanted particles such as dust, hulls, husks, metals, glass, etc. This results in a better and purer yield of oil. In order to extract the oil from these seeds, a process called oil extraction is followed. The oil seeds are crushed by using an equipment that is known as Oil Expeller or Oil Pressing Machine. During the earlier times, the extraction of oil was done by crushing the oil seeds with the use of stone grinders and other mills. Oil expelling is a mechanical method that is used to extract oil from oil seeds like Sunflower seeds, Safflower seeds, Groundnuts, Soybeans, Rape seeds, Mustard seeds, Castor seeds, Copra, Cotton seeds, and many more. All oil seeds contain some amount of oil in them. It varies from 20% to 60%. In order to extract the oil content from them, the oil seeds have to be crushed or squeezed under a high pressure in one step. As the seeds are pressed, it produces a friction, which causes seeds to heat up. As the heat of the expellers increase, the yield of the extracted oil also increases. The biggest advantage of using Oil Expellers is that the oil that is extracted through the use of such machines is organic and 100% free of all chemicals. The use of chemicals increases the oil yield by a large quantity, but they are not very pure and healthy. Whereas, the oil extracted by using Screw Presses do not need the use of any kind of chemical.
