Is anyone using a service or API for NER? If there were an API or service for NER, assuming it offered good coverage of your domain, would you use it?

i've been using the package from basis technologies (www.basistech.com). the upside is that you get access to a bunch of "basic" language processing capabilities for a number of languages, the downside is that you cannot alter those capabilities to suit your particular needs.

If you are looking for libraries to do the same, you might be able to use

  1. Stanford Named Entity Recognizer (NER)
  2. Lingpipe
